WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
During this 10-day intensive course with Kevin Chen, learning will focus on head construction and how to translate facial features into drawing, and how to capture the model’s likeness and expressions.
Participants will work from photos and with a live model.
LEVEL
Fundamentals ● Intermediate ● Advanced
PRE-REQUISITE
Basic human anatomy & proportions knowledge and some drawing experience.
REQUESTED MATERIAL
* Newsprint paper pad (18″ x 24″)
* Drawing board with clips (slightly larger than 18″ x 24″)
* 4 Kimberly 9xxB Graphite pencils (first choice) or 4 Conté Paris Pierre Noire HB pencils
* Breadcrumb eraser * Razor blade (for sharpening pencils)
* Thick sandpaper (for sharpening pencils)
* Pen and sketchbook for note-taking. No larger than 8.5″ x 11″ (something easy to carry)
THE TEACHER
Kevin Chen, born in Taipei (Taiwan), is a concept artist working in the animation, video game and film industries.
He graduated from the Art Center College of Design (BFA in illustration) and has worked for various studios on projects such as “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, “Call of Duty”, “Suckerpunch”, “Men in Black 3”, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 & 2”,…
Kevin Chen is also the founder of the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, California. He teaches human figure drawing and character design.
