DRAWING PARIS OUTSIDE : BRINGING INANIMATE OBJECTS TO LIFE ● THOMAS FLUHARTY

.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKSHOP

The main emphasis of this workshop is to help you to create expressive dynamic drawing. In this workshop, Thomas Fluharty will teach how he uses « wonk », i.e., the ability to push and pull the subject in a quirky off kilter way, thus making it come alive and grab your attention.
Thomas will show you how to exaggerate and how to see life and objects in a new way. He will unpack and explain how he sees, how he thinks, how he moves his arm and hand, and how he holds his pencil or pastel stick.
Thomas will share what kind of paper he uses, how he scratches away the light effect and individual hairs.
Finally, he will share how he uses shapes and design.

This workshop takes place in the « playground » known as the street of Paris. Art and design is everywhere in Paris and you will enter into that beauty and engage it and create for the three straight days. From buildings to bridges and light posts, to cobblestone street and churches, this is where you will engage and draw.

Thomas Fluharty will do demos and engages each student by making rounds and sharing personal insights ans critiques each hour.

THE TEACHER

After working for over thirty years in editorial and as a storyboard artist, Thomas Fluharty decided to create a body of work for himself, and for the enjoyment of others, by painting what he loves and focusing on pop culture icons.
Thomas Fluharty was classically trained in Dutch and Flemish oil painting techniques, and was strongly inspired by painting icons William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Rembrandt. Their methods appeared to be a logical way to represent contemporary pop culture icons, which have acquired a larger than life status.
